To make it in the acting business you have to be ever-ready to exploit an employment opportunity. After all, there are tons of 'starving artist' actors out there, looking to put some food on their plate and a paycheck in their bank account. You're competing with all those actors all the time, and the best way to get ahead of the pack is by being ready to spring into action.
For an actor, business cards are a great way to get their foot in the door. They're visual, they're just about as effective as business cards and there are plenty of cheap comp cards available. A headshot is a great way for an actor to get his or her most unique attribute out there: their face. A face makes or breaks an actor, as studios are looking for someone attractive or, at least, memorable. Someone who makes an impression. A headshot can really show that off.
So maybe what you need is an online headshot. Printing up glamor shots can be expensive, and with how many you're going to have to give away, it may be counterproductive for your survival. This is the 21st century after all, and who doesn't have an e-mail address of a social media account that you can use to link people to your website?
Your targets don't need slips of paper in their wallet, or crumpled up in their pocket, if they can visit your website and see a pristine image of your face every time whenever they want or need to. You can try building your website yourself, or you could turn it over to a professional, as you would do with your business card or comp card. Either way, you've got options, and it behooves you to take advantage of as many as you can. Only ambition backed up by willpower is going to get you to the top of the industry, after all.
